Similar to physical therapy, certain exercises, stretches and relaxation techniques can help alleviate pain, prevent mouthbreathing and in children, aid in correct facial development.
With a thorough exam, we can diagnose where you are having muscle compensations, tight tissues and possible tethered/tied tissues. Just like physical therapy, we create a specialized list of exercises to re-train your muscles. Our treatment recommendations may also include massage, lifestyle changes, or even surgery.
Destini, a Registered Dental Hygienist, began her training in MyoFunctional Therapy after seeing many of her patients with neck pain, headaches and teeth grinding getting little relief from traditional therapies. She received her training from the nationally recognized MyoMentor course with Sarah Hornsby and enjoys seeing patients in person and through zoom calls for their convenience. She is thrilled to be helping her patients with flossing AND proper breathing.
Dr.Barrett began her journey into MyoFunctional Therapy when she realized her son had many of the symptoms listed in a lecture on Pediatric Sleep Apnea. She quickly dived into the field and has had multiple courses on Sleep Apnea, MyoFunctional therapy, and Tongue Ties. Dr. Barrett focuses her time on educating patients that exhibit symptoms, providing dental and surgical options as needed.
